In many cases your commercial trade association will be able to offer more specific advice to your own situation. They should also be able to put you in touch with independent consultants.

Successful Energy Management - starts at the top! There must be a genuine commitment to invest both time and money. Appoint a person to be responsible for Energy Efficiency.

Collate energy Information - Collect data relating to current levels of energy use in your business. GMTR will provide summaries of your gas usage in a format suitable for your needs, and will work with you in taking steps to improve consumption.

Produce an Action Plan - Set realistic targets. Make all of your staff ‘Energy Aware’. Be careful that your energy savings suggestions do not compromise Health and Safety.

Monitor Success - Keep initial targets simple and get used to winning.

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

This document provides basic information and guidance for business and public sector customers on the efficient use of gas and electricity. It also includes contact details for a wide range of sources of further information and assistance, including financial assistance, on energy efficiency measures. A free, dedicated telephone information service is also provided by GMTR, details of which can be found in section 5.

This document has been prepared in consultation with energywatch, the independent consumer organisation, and has been approved by Ofgem, the gas and electricity industry regulatory body.
